This one started with an old drawing I saw on The Row's Instagram — a dying lily, drawn in 1907. Something about it stuck with me.
I sketched it out in pencil, then worked over it in layers of acrylic and texture medium. Somewhere in the process I started adding small Minecraft characters on top. My kids are obsessed with Minecraft right now, and I kept thinking about how they play these games about building and surviving while the world around them feels like it's breaking apart.
The painting ended up feeling like a war scene. The lily is dying. The Minecraft figures are scattered across it, trying to hold their ground. Fragility and play, beauty and collapse, all in the same frame.
